Sungai Way is one of the area in the Petaling Jaya district. Sungai Way is a new village that was named after the river that flows through the village, Sungai Way, and is a tributary from Sungai Penchala. Early signs of human existence have been discovered in Sungai Way 142 years ago that began in 1870. It is believed that the discovery of tin ore at the end of the 19th century at Sungai Way had attracted a lot of Chinese migrants to the area. Selangor‘s Resident Sir Frank Swettenham constructed rail lines from Kuala Lumpur to Klang in 1882. One of the stations was located in Sungai Way. This clearly proves that Sungai Way was discovered rapidly around 1870s, between a few years after the discovery of Kuala Lumpur.

This is the earliest morning market selling a variety of daily necessities. Traders trade openly, in groups and unorganized. At that time, traders used abacus and scales (kati & pikul) as a measuring and counting material in trading transactions. The market is open as early as 6.00 am to 10.00 am.
